Psalm 110 is, I think, a unnerving prophesy… was David known as a Prophet? I didn’t get that feeling but as each of these Patriarchs enter into their old age there certainly seems to be a tendency to predict that which has yet to come. Verse 4 is the key to why I think Psalm 110 is prophetic in nature:
“The LORD has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
IT’S OFFICIAL Erika has completely gone bonkers!! Here me out… Melchizedek made a small cameo appearance back in Genesis when we were talking about Abraham. kind of unnoteworthy event, SO WHY would all of a sudden David bring this guy up? Lets doo a little search for Melchizedek throughout the Entire bible and see what comes up… (for those of you who need a little help click on the highlighted name Melchizedek, I did the hard work for you)
Hebrews mentions the dude again and suddenly we start to get a more complete picture of what David is trying to talk about. David could be talking about Jesus… lets reread Psalm 110 and see what he’s saying:
Psalm 110
Of David. A psalm.
1 The LORD says to my lord:[c]
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”
2 The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
3 Your troops will be willing
on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,
your young men will come to you
like dew from the morning’s womb.[d]
4 The LORD has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at your right hand[e];
he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead
and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
7 He will drink from a brook along the way,[f]
and so he will lift his head high.
